On March 11, another milestone event took place at the construction site of the new power units of Leningrad NPP-2. Specialists of TITAN-2 Holding installed the second tier of the inner containment in the reactor building of Power Unit 3.

The 260-ton structure was installed with a heavy crawler crane Zoomlion ZCC32000 with a load lifting capacity of 2000 tons.

150 specialists of TITAN-2 were involved in the installation of the second tier: project office, teams of welders, installers, slingers and crane operators. Initially, the components of the inner containment tier were manufactured at the PJSC SUS production base in Sosnovy Bor, from where they were delivered to the construction site. Already here, the Holding’s specialists pre-assembled and fully prepared the structure for lifting.

The installation, which lasted about nine hours, was carried out according to the schedule and in compliance with high quality standards. As a result, the height of the reactor building reached 22 meters out of the planned 70. The builders have a large amount of work ahead of them on the already installed and subsequent tiers of the inner and outer containment, including reinforcement and concreting. The fully double-shell containment of the reactor building will be ready in 2028.

Pavel Moserov, Project Manager, CIW Division, JSC CONCERN TITAN-2:
“This tier of the inner containment consists of 24 assemblies, each 6 by 12 meters. We produce all the components at our own production facility and deliver them to the site. Here they are assembled and welded together, followed by the inspection of weld joints. This method allows us to avoid many operations at height. To assemble this tier, we pre-installed supporting frames on the reactor building and prepared the scaffolds, on which the welders worked. Essentially, the inner containment is the main load-bearing structure of the reactor building. Before starting the installation, we lift the structure 30 cm from the ground and sustain it for 40 minutes. This way we make sure that everything is in order, the slings are stretched evenly, and we can start lifting.”

The critical operation was attended by the top officials: General Director of Rosatom State Corporation Alexey Likhachev, Governor of the Leningrad Region Alexander Drozdenko, Head of JSC CONCERN TITAN-2 Grigory Naginskiy and Executive Director of JSC CONCERN TITAN-2 Dmitry Tveritinov. The dignitaries visited the construction site and personally witnessed the pace of construction of the power units.

Alexey Likhachev, General Director of Rosatom State Corporation:
“The north-west of our country is traditionally an energy-consuming region, where industry and port infrastructure are actively developing. The new units of Leningrad NPP-2 will be able to guarantee a reliable supply of clean electricity to the residents of the region and s successful implementation of major regional investment and social projects.”

Alexander Drozdenko, Governor of the Leningrad Region:
“Today we saw that the construction of replacement powers of the Leningrad NPP is proceeding at a good pace. The quality, scope and timing of construction and installation works are under the strict monitoring of the customer, the general contractor and government inspection services. We are confident that the new power units will provide electricity to millions of our households and will become the key to improving the standard of living in our region.”
