PJSC SUS consistently implements a set of measures aimed at improving work safety and efficiency at the construction site. Both process innovations and employee initiatives play a key role in this process.
The system for receiving improvement suggestions is successfully operating at the construction site of new power units. Currently, 41 initiatives are in the works, ranging from local solutions to improve the comfort of on-site workers to large-scale projects affecting the entire site. To collect ideas, special boxes have been installed on the territory of the LNPP-2, and posters and QR codes are displayed for sending proposals to the RPS department social media.
One of the latest projects was the installation of an automated system for personal protective equipment (PPE) and consumables release at PJSC SUS Construction and Installation Department 16. Unlike a traditional storeroom, these terminals operate around the clock without the need of a storekeeper and ensure uninterrupted equipment release.
Aleksandr Kovyazin, Head of the PJSC SUS RPS division:
“Pilot industrial tests at Construction and Installation Department 16 have demonstrated positive results and satisfied requests of workers. Thus, we plan to scale this project. It is proposed to place such vending machines in the pits of the turbine and nuclear islands in the near future, and at each key facility in the long run”.
This system allows for strict control and accounting. Each worker included in the ACS database receives PPE with a personal pass. The machines are programmed to meet the established issue rate, which eliminates overspending. All transactions are automatically recorded in the electronic accounting system and will be written off in the future with reference to the detailed design documentation, which ensures full control over inventory movements.
Last year, an example of such an improvement was the introduction of a transportable canopy for waterproofing work on the reactor building of Power Unit 3. The solution proposed by the staff of PJSC SUS Construction and Installation Department 1 reduced labor costs and material consumption.
A striking example of this year’s successful project implementation has been the welders’ proposal to use long gas hoses when assembling the inner containment tier on the test stand and to change the containment grades assembly scheme. As a result, welding machines can now be fixed in place, and welders can work within a radius of 25 meters without moving them. This has significantly reduced unproductive time losses and increased overall productivity, and the deadline for commissioning the finished tier has been reduced by one month.
Moreover, last summer a vending machine with drinking water was installed near the general contractor's building. This solved the problem of irregular water supply and provided builders with round-the-clock access to clean drinking water right on their way to the workplace.
The implemented projects clearly demonstrate that employee initiatives can improve the quality of production processes, increasing their efficiency, safety and comfort.
