The works began in March of this year and lasted for approximately three months. In total, nearly 2,000 tons of reinforcement and over 4,000 cubic meters of concrete were required to construct the 2,100 m², two-meter-high foundation.

During the construction of the foundation for the reactor building, steel reinforcement with a diameter of 16 to 40 mm, as well as special heavy-weight high-strength concrete, was used.

The builders are currently monitoring the concrete curing process. After the quality of the lower foundation has been verified, reinforcement and concreting of the upper section will begin, increasing its thickness by 1.5 metres.

Konstantin Khudyakov, JSC CONCERN TITAN-2 LNPP Construction Program Director:

«The early and high-quality completion of the foundation for the reactor building of Unit 4 with a WWER-1200 was the result of the coordinated and intensive work of a large team of specialists. Meanwhile, this success is not isolated: at the same power unit, the installation of the foundation slab of the safety building was completed ahead of schedule in May. The works on the control building foundation are currently progressing rapidly. Four more "nuclear island" foundations are planned to have been completed and delivered to operation by the end of the year.

At Unit 3, we are preparing for the pre-assembly and installation of the first tier of the reactor building’s internal containment structure in its designated location, as well as for the installation of the core catcher. There are no risks associated with these key operations.»
