Specialists of TITAN-2 Holding completed installation of four main pumping units of the process water system of the onshore pumping station of Akkuyu NPP power unit 2. This is an important stage in preparing the cooling systems of the turbine island.

Powerful centrifugal pumps will supply seawater to the cooling system of the turbine plant condensers. The efficiency of cooling of the turbine hall equipment and the stable operation of the turbine generator set directly depend on uninterrupted operation of these pumps.

These are one of the largest pumps used at nuclear power plants, the height of each set is comparable to a five-storey building. The design of the equipment provides for a multi-level placement, where the lower part of the pump is installed at a depth of 21 meters underground, whereas electric motors with a capacity of 6,500 kW each – at elevation minus 5 meters. This solution provides reliable protection of equipment from external impacts, including flood and tsunami.

After start-up of the power unit, four pumps will be able to jointly pump up to 260,000 cubic meters of water per hour. This is a volume comparable to about a hundred Olympic swimming pools.

Nikolay Apalkov, Deputy Project Manager for OHS, T2IC, noted:
“This is an important stage in the construction of the plant’s hydraulic structures. The experience with the first pump station, where many decisions had to be made literally on the fly, played a huge role. All the comments revealed at that time were taken into account: the design solutions were revised, the requirements for the readiness of premises and structures were refined. The key innovation was that this time the equipment was mounted using a standard bridge crane installed in advance. This has significantly increased the safety and speed of work.”

Information note from TITAN-2 Holding

TITAN-2 Holding (part of ROSATOM State Corporation) is one of the key participants in large-scale nuclear industry projects in Russia and abroad.

The Holding companies perform a full cycle of work: design, construction organization, construction, electric installation, commissioning of facilities.

Today, TITAN-2 is the general contractor of the construction of new power units of the Leningrad, Kola and Smolensk NPPs, participates in implementation of the PDEC “Breakthrough” project in Seversk, as well as in the largest international nuclear projects – Akkuyu NPP in Türkiye, Paks II NPP in Hungary and El-Dabaa NPP in Egypt.

New power units of the Leningrad NPP and the Kursk NPP-2, the Core Shared Research Facility Siberian Circular Photon Source (SKIF) in Novosibirsk, as well as the facilities of Innopolis in Tatarstan are among the projects completed by the Holding. The competencies of TITAN-2 are also in demand in construction of large industrial, research, social and infrastructural facilities.
