The site preparation at the territory of the Smolensk NPP-2 with an area of 325 hectares began in late 2023. The first stage of works consisted of site clearing - overall, 94 thousand cubic meters of wood was cut down and removed. By late 2024 grading had been completed, during which 113 thousand cubic meters of soil had been transitioned.

The first stage of the construction and installation base creation is currently in full swing. Its territory is designed to accommodate 64 facilities, including concrete mixing units, reinforcement shops, warehouse compounds, material load-out areas as well as engineering and personnel facilities.

The visit began with a detailed inspection of the construction site. Aleksandr Shutikov examined the progress of creating the construction and installation base, where the foundations of three buildings had already been built, that is engineering facility for the general contractor and customer respectively, as well as a canteen seating 100 people. The director also assessed works on the arranging of temporary on-site and access roads.

Danila Rashchenko, Chief Engineer of Separate Subdivision of JSC CONCERN TITAN-2:

“The site has been cleared, roads are being laid, and the construction of facilities is in full swing. First and foremost, the buildings for the general contractor, customer and canteen are being erected. We will shortly proceed with the construction of concrete mixing units, warehouses, and engineering facilities.
We are already laying on-site roads with the overall length of 3,463 meters. To date, earth excavation and compaction have been done on the area of 2,570 meters, as well as a sand sub-base 1500 meters long has been laid. We plan to have finished these works by the end of this year. Furthermore, we will soon conclude a contract on the construction of a 110/10 kV transformer substation, which will provide continuous power supply to the construction and installation base”.

A senior management meeting on the construction chaired by Aleksandr Shutikov, Head of Rosenergoatom, was the milestone of the visit. Its main objective was to assess the construction pace of the two new Generation III+ power units with VVER-1200 reactors. Representatives of the customer (Rosenergoatom JSC), general contractor (JSC CONCERN TITAN-2) and general designer (JSC Atomenergoproekt) delivered reports on the current project status.

Aleksandr Shutikov, Director General of Rosenergoatom JSC:

“Ensuring the successful implementation of our project on the construction of the new Smolensk NPP-2 power units is of utmost importance to us. I am certain that our team’s expertise and sense of responsibility will guarantee the achievement of the stated objectives”.
