The inner containment (IC) seals the reactor compartment and supports pipelines and the polar crane.
Once the IC is installed, specialists will proceed to welding the third and the fourth tiers and the reinforcement and installation of embedded parts including elements of the transfer lock and the personnel lock. The next step is to place the dome part of the reactor compartment, which consists of three IC modules, in its design position.
Now, the intense construction work for all four power units of Akkuyu NPP is going according to schedule. The Akkuyu NPP power units will be built to a Russian design, with VVER-1200 reactor plants. This type of reactor has a double containment – the inner containment and the outer containment – and is one of the safest in the world.
