The start of works for concreting the foundation slab of Power Unit No. 2 was given by Alexey Likhachev, the Director General of State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM, and Mohammed Shaker, the minister of electricity and renewable energy of Egypt.

El-Dabaa NPP is the first nuclear power plant in Egypt. It will consist of four power units with reactors VVER-1200 of generation 3+ with a power output of 1200 MW each. The power plant is being built on the Mediterranean coast in the city of El-Dabaa, Matrouh Governorate, circa 300 km to the north-west of Cairo.

“ROSATOM will build the most advanced power units of VVER-1200 Project in the Arab Republic of Egypt. We have already accumulated an experience of construction and operation of NPPs with such reactors both in Russia and abroad. The construction of a nuclear power plant will allow Egypt to achieve a new level of development of technology, industry and education. This will be the most extensive project of Russo-Egyptian cooperation since the construction of Aswan Dam,” noted Alexey Likhachev.

According to contractual obligations, apart from building the station, the Russian party will also supply Russian nuclear fuel for the entire nuclear power plant lifecycle and provide the Egyptian partners with the help in personnel training and the support in operation and maintenance of the station for the first ten years of its operation. Within the framework of another agreement the Russian party will build a special storage facility and supply storage containers for spent fuel.

CONCERN TITAN-2 acts a one of the contractors at the construction of El-Dabaa NPP. Erection of construction and installation base has become one of the first tasks for the company at the facility. CONCERN TITAN-2 also supplied two tower cranes to the site.

One of them, with a 40-ton load capacity, will be used in construction of reactor building of Power Unit No. 1. The concrete itself is also supplied from the company’s batching plant. The other crane, with a 16-ton load capacity, is at the storage area. Works related to the arrangement of foundation for it are currently in progress.
