The meeting was held within the framework of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

This was the first visit to the Leningrad nuclear power plant for the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency. Mr. Amano started the visit of the new power unit of Leningrad NPP from the reactor building. Primarily, the head of the IAEA was interested in systems designed for the safe operation of the plant. The design includes several such systems at the new power units of the Leningrad NPP. The director of LNPP Vladimir Pereguda and the chief engineer of the plant under construction, Alexander Belyaev, provided detailed information about all the peculiarities of the NPP-2006 project, which replaces the capacities of the Leningrad NPP.

At the main control room Mr. Amano was demonstrated how the tests were monitored in real time, which were taking place at the moment at the first power unit of the station under construction. In memory of his visit the head of the IAEA made a note in the unit shift supervisor’s operation log.
