Specialists of JSC “CONCERN TITAN-2” jointly with “KATE” execute flushing of the first channel pipelines of the system for cooling circuit for important consumers. It connects spray cooling pond with the nuclear island equipment of the Power Unit 1 of the NPP under construction.
To execute the operation, part of the spray cooling pond was filled with water. The volume is 18 000 cubic meters.
The flushed system consists of a spray cooling pond, underground tunnels, the switch chamber and the pumping station. From the pool pipelines go to the heat exchanger in the safety building. Total length of the lines exceeds 200 meters.
In order to save water after flushing the first channel, the water will be pumped to the second half of the pool. Then the system will be subjected to pressure testing. Then start up and adjustment work will start.
Totally there are four spray cooling ponds at the Leningrad NPP site. Between them there is a reserve capacity for water storage. Spray cooling ponds will cool the water delivered from the nuclear island. In summer, the water will be conveyed to the ponds through special nozzles, while in the cold season it will be supplied via inner pipeline.
The principle of operation of spray cooling ponds is identical to evaporative cooling towers intended for cooling the condensers of the turbine.
Soon the second channel of the pipelines will be flushed also. Performance of the two spray cooling ponds is to be tested before winter.
