The structure weighing 144 tons was lifted by means of a powerful crane "Liebherr". At height, the cargo was moved over two tower cranes and lowered inside the building into the reactor shaft.

"Dry" protection is a metal cylinder. Inside the cylinder, the walls are filled with special serpentinite concrete. It possesses high radiation resistance and enables to effectively weaken streams of neutrons outside of the reactor shaft. While in service, the "dry" protection will carry out functions of the radiation-thermal screen in relation to the ordinary concrete of the shaft.

To install "dry" protection in place, specialists of  “MSU-90” have installed a metal structure inside it. After geodetic check for accuracy of installation, (the tolerance was 2 mm), the lifting device is subject to dismantling.

Afterwards, one will start works on installation of thermal isolation of the cylindrical part of the casing and supporting truss.
