Evaporative cooling tower No.3 is going to be the tallest building of the Leningrad NPP under construction. Its height will be 170 meters. The height of the first two cooling towers is 150 meters.

The cooling tower construction is carried out only during the frost-free season. So far, until the average temperature falls below 5 degrees, construction workers continue placing concrete according to around-the-clock schedule.

The height of each tier of the cooling tower is about one and a half meters. Concreting of a single tier requires a day of continuous operation. To date, the staff of the "Northern Construction Department" have reached the height of sixty meters.

With the help of a tower crane concrete is lifted upwards in a special container. Prior to doing this each concrete batch is thoroughly tested for compliance to the required parameters. The laboratory staff  of the PJSC “SUS" testing center is constantly present on the construction site.

The cooling tower under construction is intended for Power Unit 2 of the new NPP. It is part of the water circulation system and it will serve to cool the turbine condenser.
