CONCERN TITAN-2 helped to arrange the visit.
The relationship of the two nuclear towns started out almost two years ago when construction of the Hanhikivi-1 nuclear power plant was launched near Pyhäjoki. The construction is based on the Russian design “NPP-2006”. The same design is used for the new power units of the Leningrad NPP in Sosnovy Bor.
Meetings between students of Pyhäjoki gymnasium and Sosnovy Bor school No. 9 are held regularly. Many times teleconference calls were arranged in the CONCERN TITAN-2 office. Two visits were arranged last year, when Russian students first visited Finland followed by the visit of their Finnish peers to Sosnovy Bor. CONCERN TITAN-2 represented by its General Director Grigory Naginskiy covered all transportation costs and entertainment program expenses of the Finnish guests.
This year the students from Sosnovy Bor spent three school days in Pyhäjoki. They were accommodated in the families of their peers and communicated and studied in English. They attended various classes, from home economics and gym to Swedish and English learning.
A joint project was the result of the three days at school. The students formed three groups and prepared presentations on history and culture of Pyhäjoki, and presented them to each other. One of the presentations was about the Hanhikivi-1 nuclear power station, the other two – about the historical and cultural monuments of Pyhäjoki.
Now the students will continue to communicate online and in October the Finnish students are invited to visit Sosnovy Bor on a return visit.
